Hacienda Misné is a historic construction from the 18th century, with a unique combination of architectural details from colonial times, with a slightly french influence. It has a beautifully restored main house and the property is still surrounded by the walls that used to protect the Hacienda and its tropical lush gardens. The history and traditions of Yucatan, combined with the natural beauty of its exuberant gardens, the singing of the birds and the sigh of the yucatecan breeze make it feel as if time has stopped.

The haciendas reflect the history of its towns. Architectonic details, domestic and social customs, economic activities and legends, are still kept in these buildings, which combine men and nature in a perfect harmony. This magnificent edifications were built in Yucatán during the spanish colony of the XVIII century.

The Yucatan peninsula has been considered “the haciendas land”, due the high number of plantations that proliferate when they turned their activity completely towards henequen monoculture.

These properties became to a variety of architectonic styles, although some of them share certain characteristic details: the longitudinal outline construction, austere decoration, perfect symmetry in doors and windows, high ceilings and beautiful pieces of wood and iron as furniture or decoration. The haciendas main entrances always have a picturesque moorish arch.

To protect their residences from the high temperatures, the haciendas were built with very thick stone walls, sloping roof with imported tiles from Europe.

The “haciendas henequeneras” accounted for 100 years the base of the economy of Yucatan, is why during the henequen era this plant was known as the green gold of Yucatan.
